Huawei wins STC network upgrade contract

Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators, has been awarded a contract by Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to upgrade its existing network to HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Evolution).

Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technologies has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to upgrade parts of its 3G/3.5G networks with HSPA+ technology, Trade Arabia reports. Huawei will initially deploy the upgrade in Damman, Khobar and the country’s Northern region, eventually covering all Saudi harbour towns along the Persian Gulf. The HSPA+ network will boost download speeds to a peak of 21.6Mbps. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, STC’s relationship with Huawei extends back to 2006 when the firm deployed the operator’s first W-CDMA network, which has since been upgraded with HSDPA and HSUPA evolutions.
