SHENZHEN – President Abdullah Gul continued his trip in China with a visit to the city of Shenzhen.

Gul, who met with Turkish citizens living in Shenzhen, said Turkey would open a consulate in the city of Guangzhou and signaled that Turkish Airlines might launch scheduled flights to this city.

He said it was pleasing to see Turkish entrepreneurs in China, one of the four greatest economies in the world, adding that it inspired hope for Turkey’s future.

President Gul later attended the lunch hosted in his honor by Chinese Communist Party Vice Secretary for Guandong, Liu Yupu.

Gul also visited the headquaters of the Huawei company, which has GSM investments in Turkey and has undertaken 3G contracts for the country’s leading GSM operators.

During this visit, head of Turkey’s Prime Ministry Investment Agency and Huawei’s director general signed a memorandum of understanding for establishment of a research and development center in Turkey.

Gul will proceed to the next stop of his visit, Urumchi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
