Huawei E220 – Vodacom to MTN

Say I have a Vodacom 3G card (Huawei E220).
I haven’t tested, but suspect I can’t use this with MTN sim card? I’ve tried with CellC, didn’t work but suspected might be their lack of 3G functionality or some such.
If not, is it possible to upgrade the firmware on thing, and load the MTN stuff instead?
