Guangzhou Aims at Financial Center in Southern China

The first China International Financial Services Conference, jointly organized by the Guangzhou Sub-council of CCPIT (China Council for Promotion of International Trade) and the Financial Guangzhou Municipality Services Office, was held on November 12th. As the first conference of its kind in Guangzhou, it attracted over 800 representatives from more than 300 financial institutions, enterprises, research institutes and trade associations from both home and abroad.

Wu Yimin, Executive Vice Mayor, made a welcome speech at the conference and said that foreign trade played an important role in promoting Guangzhou’s economy. In recent years, Guangzhou embarked on a new road of building the city into a financial center in Southern China. By the end of this September, Guangzhou-based financial institutions had boasted deposits of 1,632.4 billion and loans of 1,061.8 billion in foreign currency, ranking third place among major cities in China.
