Border police officers check cases of Haorizi cigarettes from a truck in Bao’an District. Two trucks carrying 1,000 cases of well-known domestic brands of cigarettes, including Haorizi, Hongtashan and Double Happiness, were seized at the Pinghu exit of Jihe (airport-He’ao) Expressway on Tuesday morning. The drivers were not carrying any documentation, police said. It is believed the goods, with a market value of more than 4 million yuan (US$571,429), were to be smuggled to Hong Kong. Most of the boxes were falsely labeled as toys, biscuits and handicraft in attempt to evade heavy tax on cigarettes. Police are investigating.
