New rule

TAIWANESE coming to the mainland are benefiting from a new rule that allows their travel permits to be endorsed at six mainland border checkpoints including Shenzhen.

In the week after the implementation of the new rule Oct. 20, dozens of Taiwanese had their travel permits endorsed at the Shenzhen airport checkpoint, airport checkpoint officials said yesterday.

Previously those with unendorsed travel permits were not permitted to enter the mainland.

Fake plates

SHENZHEN police seized 108 cars including 69 vehicles with counterfeit license plates in a two-hour operation early yesterday.

Other cars were found without licenses, or found to have failed annual checks.

A total of 600 police officers were sent to check major parking lots in communities and urban villages from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Driver charged

A DRIVER who was involved in an assault on a woman while he was under the influence of alcohol was recently charged by the Futian District Procuratorate with intentionally running over a woman.

Zhang Fujun, 35, from Northeast China, almost hit a van driven by Ma Chao, while he was turning his car from Hongling Road into Bagua Road 4 at around 2:40 p.m. Sept. 14. The two got out of their vehicles to argue. Zhang beat Ma, 26, a Hunan native, and Ma’s 3-year-old daughter. Zhang, an employee of a design company in Bagualing, Luohu District, tried to flee but was stopped by Ma’s wife Wang Huan, 24, who lay down in front of his car. Zhang ran over Wang but was later stopped by a crowd of people.A
