Typhoon Hagupit hit Guangzhou and caused great damage on September 24th. 20,478 people were evacuated. By 14:00, September 24th, no streets in the urban area were covered with water as a result of the joint efforts by both citizens and soldiers in the wake of the storm. So far, the damaged dykes are under repair.

Officials said that in total 14,879 people participated in the evacuation, including 1,094 soldiers and 100 from the Flood Prevention Emergency Team. Eight vehicles from Guangzhou Water Supply Co., Ltd helped to tackle inland inundation. So far, there have been no deaths and injuries.

On the morning of September 24th, Su Zequn, Deputy Executive Mayor and Member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Committee of the CPC, directed evacuation in Panyu. He stressed that rapid response should be taken to repair hydro engineering and minimize economic losses.
