Mizuho Corporate Bank establishes Guangzhou branch

On September 22, 2008, Mizuho Corporate Bank (China), Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. (MHCB: President & CEO, Hiroshi Saito), established and commenced operations of the Guangzhou Branch in the city of Guangzhou., Guangdong Province, China.

Guangzhou is the largest city in South China, boasting the third highest GDP among cities in China, behind Shanghai and Beijing. Together with Shenzhen and other cities, Guangzhou makes up the highly productive Pearl River Delta Economic Zone. With the establishment of operations by the three major Japanese automobile manufacturers in recent years, the PRD Economic Zone has secured a position as a hub for auto-related industries in China, and the area is also attracting significant investment from overseas in a number of other key industries, including electronics manufacturing and petrochemical engineering. In terms of distribution, Guangzhou is served by the Port of Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, two of China’s most important ports, and it is also developing into a major financial center. As such, Guangzhou is expected to continue to undergo further economic development as a key city of Southern China.

The primary objectives of establishing Mizuho Corporate Bank (China)’s Guangzhou Branch include providing financial services in the Guangzhou region and supporting the development of business operations in the area by companies from Japan and other countries. The establishment of the Guangzhou Branch, in combination with the existing Shenzhen Branch of Mizuho Corporate Bank (China), will create a two-branch infrastructure for Mizuho in Guangdong Province, and this will provide Mizuho Corporate Bank (China) with an enhanced network on mainland China (not including Taiwan and Hong Kong) that comprises eight branches (excluding sub-branches), the largest network of any Japanese financial institution. This newly enhanced network will enable Mizuho to provide improved services to customers in Guangdong Province and to provide enhanced business support to customers all across China.

After the establishment of Mizuho Corporate Bank (China)’s Guangzhou Branch, procedures to close the MHCB’s Guangzhou Representative Office will be commenced.
